SMART MODULAR RETRACTABLE USB CABLE DEVICE: AN INTEGRATED FUNCTIONAL AND ECO-DESIGN APPROACH

The paper presents the conceptual development of a smart retractable USB cable device designed in accordance with user-centred design and eco-design principles. The study originates from common problems identified in the use of charging cables: insufficient length, tangling, mechanical damage, and recycling difficulties. Existing solutions are analysed, and a dual-spool retractable system is proposed, incorporating an overheating protection mechanism and a modular architecture that enables replacement of the cable cartridge. The integration of circular economy principles is discussed from a conceptual perspective. The results highlight the technical and sustainability potential of the proposed solution.
