EDUCATIONAL MODELS FOR REPRESENTING SECTIONS USING FDM TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

The paper presents a didactic method for teaching section representations in technical drawing, using physical models made with 3D FDM printing technology. Educational models were developed for three types of sections: front-plane section, stepped section and quarter section. The models are made of two components printed in contrasting colours that allow direct visualization of the sectioning path, facilitating the understanding of the inner contour, the outer contour and the hatching surface. The study demonstrates that the use of models significantly improves the understanding of abstract sectioning concepts, reducing the difficulties encountered by students in interpreting classical two-dimensional representations. This approach offers an economical and replicable solution for modernizing the educational process in the field of engineering graphics.
